In the Community

Unbeknowest to the public, Stephen Jackson is heavily involved with the community in Indiana and the Bay Area. Known more for his on the court play and off the court incidents, Jackson always made the attempt at each NBA stop to contribute back to society, helping out those less fortunate then himself.

FSN Bay Area compiled a feature on Jackson’s involvement with the community in a special interview with Matt Steinmetz:



Stephen Jackson launches the “Jack 1 Foundation” to “provide community initiatives focusing on youth development and empowerment regardless of economic status” in August 2008.

Stephen Jackson is awarded the annual Angela & Christopher Cohan Community Service Award for his community work throughout the 2007-2008 Season. Past winners include Mikael Pietrus, Jason Richardson, Adonal Foyle, Antawn Jamison, Larry Huges, and Avery Johnson.

Stephen Jackson is recognized for his community service work by the NBA as he receives the March Community Assist Award.

Stephen Jackson launched his own charitable foundation named Jack 1 Foundation in his hometown Port Arthur, Texas.

Stephen Jackson participated at a basketball court groundbreaking for the Omega Boys Club in San Francisco. The Omega Boys Club was founded to keep young people away from violence and incarceration.

In support of John Legend’s Show Me Campaign, Stephen Jackson donated $7,500 to the cause for the 15 points he scored against the Houston Rockets. Jackson also plans to go to Africa to help out anyway he can in the summer.

Stephen Jackson, along with Al Harrington, Monta Ellis, Chris Webber and Warriors team president Bob Rowell, attends a “Silence the Violence” rally in Oakland as part of a series of workshops and gatherings to teach youngsters the alternatives to gangs and violence.

Stephen Jackson meets and greets ten third-graders, from his hometown of Port Arthur, Texas, who won an essay contest sponsored by the Golden State Warriors and Southwest Airlines.

On Christmas Day in 2007, Stephen Jackson took time out to play Santa for Oakland families.

Children are our future. Stephen Jackson puts in the effort to reach out to young kids and teach them the importance of school, their parents and God.

Jackson participated in the NBA Read to Achieve program making an appearance at Oakland’s Lakeview Elementary School to read books to the chilrdren.

In 2006, Stephen Jackson contributed to the construction of a school in his hometown Port Arthur, Texas. The school is aptly named Stephen Jackson Academy and teaches children from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.
